Harry Potter and the Order

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is this year's version of the fruitcake. Already the book is being passed around as people who bought copies over the weekend have also recieved copies that they ordered. As a result of this overstock of Harry Potter, I am being loaned a copy for reading from one of my co-workers. I have also ordered a copy from an online source (which has not yet arrived) so when that arrives, I'll give that copy to the co-worker who loaned me their ordered copy. Such a vicious cycle.

It's 870 pages. I'm hoping I'll be able to start and finish the book tonight.

Yesterday at Le Cheval's, we ordered the Banana Flambe... I wish we had gotten a picture of that. Food on fire is always cool.

I've decided that Collectible Card

I've decided that Collectible Card Games is this generation's equivalent of poker. Whenever I get together with certain people it turns into "Hey, let's play Magic" (or Shadowfist, or Yugi-Oh! or whatever). I spent this evening drafting and playing Magic: The Gathering with some of my co-workers. We were playing using draft rules (which is alot more fun than forking over hundreds of dollars over to WOTC to create a playable deck). I managed to take first place tonight, so I'll probably end up selling my cards on Ebay at some point to make up the money.

I've been toying with the idea of just dropping everything and going to live in Canada. Is it crazy to just follow my heart like this? I'd be worried about finding another job there (will canadian businesses even hire an american?) and being able to support myself, whereas here, in California, I've got a nice comfortable lifestyle. Then again, maybe this is just what I need. I'm still young enough that I can do something like this...

My sister's graduation from UCSD

My sister's graduation from UCSD yesterday was quite possibly the coldest one I've ever attended. You would think that San Diego in June would be relatively hot, but it was cold, cloudy and chilly. I forgot to bring so many things with me this trip -- always be wary of leaving on a trip on Friday the 13th... Some of the commencement speakers at UCSD were some of the best I've ever heard (or perhaps I'm just getting more and more sentimental the more graduations I attend).

Maybe it was due to the weather, or maybe courtesy diminishes with each generation, but at the end of the commencement ceremony, there were about 2 dozen graduates still sitting in the chairs, maybe about 100 guests still watching, while during the ceremony, the graduates would get their fake diploma, and walk off the stage and go home with their families, rather than returning to their seats. I have never seen anything like it before... so the recessional was about 2 dozen people and the staff on stage. A truly sad sight to see. It did however, make finding my sister much easier after the ceremeony, when your family is the only four people sitting in the entire section.

Today is Father's Day, so be sure to call your Dad and wish him well.

I've been really happy these past few days. Tired, but happy. I pretty much fell asleep as soon as I got home from work today (which is why it's 2am and I'm up). I'm glad it's an easy week, but Thursday can't arrive soon enough. I've just had a little too much free time at work to fill my mind with doubts and fears... when I should just take those moments and enjoy the happiness that is the moment. I'm always afraid that if I talk about what makes me happy, someone will rain on my parade, instead of feeling happy for me. But that's really not the way to go about things, because then I can't share with the world what I'm feeling. But I'm really happy right now... and a little sleepy. More tomorrow.
