This entry featured a really well done Mojo Jojo from Powerpuff Girls and the Lobster Woman character, in which Mojo Jojo challenges the lobsterwoman for right to takeover Townsville in a thumbwrestling contest. The lobsterwoman doesn't have thumbs, so she loses by default, thereby proving Mojo Jojo's superiority.
These costumes were great, and the makeup was fantastic. It's really hard to cover a person's face in green and red and still make it look good, but these two pull it off spectacularly.
Contestant 12: Dancing Gecko
Gecko dances on stage. Gecko then dances on stage in a hula skirt.
Not at all interesting. Costume design is a little random; Is this someone's Furry costume?
Contestant 13: This is Sparta
This guy walks on stage, has some speech taken from the movie, and then slashes at his shield, causing the arrows to go flying. Really amazing. The crowd loved it too, as they were "hooh-ah"ing as he came on stage.
Contestant 14: Woman in Pink Dress
No idea who this woman is supposed to be, but it looked pretty nice.
Contestant 15: Avatar
This skit is of Aang and Zuko doing some moves. The choreography wasn't perfect, as you can see, Aang's form is a little bit better than Zuko's. Wonderful Avatar costumes though; I'm glad that there seems to be a growing number of Avatar cosplayers.
Contestant 16: Maximum Spider
Mary Jane, Spider-Man, Eddie Brock Venom, Green Goblin and Sandman in a recreation of the final act of Spider-Man 3. A nice touch was the word balloons for the special effects to give it that campy Batman TV touch.
Contestant 17: Browncoat from Firefly/Serenity
What is it with overweight mustachioed men in uniforms? First Tech Sergeant Richards, and now this Browncoat. Like Richards, Browncoat just walked onto the stage, waves his gun and rocket launcher around and posed for three or four minutes. The craftsmanship is really well done on this costume, but I think what kills it for me is the bright orange pants, which in all practical sense makes you easier to spot in battle.
Contestant 18: Dorothy and Scarecrow
How can anyone not love a punk-modern Dorothy who carries the ruby slippers, and walks around in red hot sneakers instead. The scarecrow costume is pretty awesome to behold.
They dance in skimpy belly dancing clothing for 3 minutes. Their costumes are definitely made for stage and show with all the sequins, but I think a large part of the Wonder Con audience was just confused as to why belly dancers were on stage.
Contestant 20: Dawn and Pokemon
In this performance, Pokemon trainer Dawn comes across what she believes is a new Pokemon. It is not a Pokemon, but rather something else entirely. Dawn then summons a Pokemon to fight the beast, which the beast soundly defeats. Dawn summons another Pokemon, who causes the beast to run in circles. Meanwhile, the second Pokemon asks Dawn to marry her, and Dawn responds with a "I'm not into bestiality". Wow. How'd that one get past the parental censors?
I was relatively unimpressed with the overall construction of the costumes; they seemed sloppy, and while the costume seems to have held together enough that they could do one of the longer skit, it was definitely a solid "meh".
